about

Splendid Virgins

Played and Produced by Amphibious
Ollie Miller: cello
Richard Maegraith: bass clarinet, tenor saxophone
Aaron (Baz) Flower: guitar
Jamie Cameron: drums, triangle

This record was made in Studio 301 and Free Energy
Device, Sydney, Australia ,in the spring of 2011.
Finely engineered by Richie B(elkner) and Stuart Long.
Mixing and Mastery by Mr Scott Christie.

Most music was written and arranged by us, except
the very beautiful “Secret Love” by Sammy Fain, and
“Kaleidoscopic” which was composed for us by
the very talented Joseph O’Connor. “Splendid Virgins”
or “O Virgo Splendens” is from the Red Book of
Montserrat and was composed by a monk a long,
long time ago.

Amphibious:SPLENDID VIRGINS review

“With this album, Amphibious has a new member: air. It swirls around the music in balmy draughts, or lies motionless between the notes and instruments, refining the music. The air is there thanks to the restraint collectively deployed by Sydney’s Ollie Miller (cello), Richard Maegraith (bass clarinet, tenor sax), Aaron Flower (guitar) and Jamie Cameron (drums). The compositions tend to be either pretty or eerie, so that when the listener is bombarded to any degree it is due to an emotional spike rather than sonic clutter. Ultimately, Amphibious are so conceptually original and unclassifiable that it is hard not see them still as a work in progress, but they are progressing, and becoming evermore fascinating.”
